On 14–15 May 2026, the LINGUARISE-DC consortium met in Naples, Italy, for the project’s fourth plenary meeting. Hosted by Expert.ai and Satways, the two-day gathering brought partners together to review the current status of the project, discuss progress across key work packages, and align priorities for the next stage of implementation.
LINGUARISE-DC is developing an advanced human language technology platform to address linguistic challenges in Europe’s defence sector. The project aims to support communication, intelligence gathering and operational coordination in multinational defence contexts, where linguistic diversity, limited training time and the need for secure, reliable language capabilities remain significant challenges.
A particularly important point in the Naples agenda was the presentation delivered by the Project Officer, Walter Strodl, focused on DEFIS programmes and project management processes, including the European Defence Fund, the European Defence Industry Programme and the European Competitiveness Fund. This session provided valuable context for the consortium’s work and helped situate LINGUARISE-DC within the wider European defence innovation landscape.
The meeting also served as a key reporting milestone. Partners presented the status of activities across project management, technical development, communication and exploitation, with dedicated updates on several work packages. These discussions allowed the consortium to consolidate progress achieved so far, identify dependencies between strands of work and ensure that upcoming tasks remain well coordinated.
Looking ahead, substantial attention was given to the next phase of project work. The second day included planning for the 2nd Evaluation Campaign, covering logistics and partner roles, as well as technical discussions on the readiness of Year 2 technologies.
The plenary additionally featured an update on collaboration with the ARCHER project, focusing on technical and strategic alignment. This remains especially relevant in the context of the EDF technological challenge on agile and robust human language technologies for defence, in which LINGUARISE-DC participates alongside AtLaS and NEMO under a shared evaluation framework organised by ARCHER.
By combining strategic guidance, formal status reporting and detailed planning for the next evaluation and development steps, the Naples plenary helped reinforce a shared understanding of the project’s progress and priorities. The consortium now moves forward with a clearer view of the work ahead as LINGUARISE-DC continues to develop language technologies designed for demanding defence environments.
